Why have surgery?

The problem of obesity

If we analyze the main causes of death in the world, we will realize that cardiovascular problems are among the first causes, but if we review how many of those patients are obese, we will realize that obesity is the main cause of associated death in the world, that is, the main causes of death are directly associated with obesity, “obesity is a disease that kills and mutilates.”

It is called the other pandemic, a disease that carries a series of deleterious consequences for life such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol and triglyceride problems, hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) among many others, experts mention that the abnormal deposit of fat in the liver, for example, causes a very severe inflammation and leads the liver to a state called non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, that is, a medical condition very similar to the one caused by alcohol in drinking patients, but in the obese patient it is not the alcohol that it is not the fat that inflames it, this condition evolves to liver fibrosis from which there is no return, fibrosis evolves to liver cirrhosis and this is a risk factor for the development of liver cancer.

The truth is that it is not the only cancer associated with obesity, also endometrial cancer in women is closely related to obesity, prostate cancer in men, breast cancer also in women and esophagus cancer in both.

Obesity generates a state of generalized inflammation, which is 20 times more powerful than tuberculosis infection, that is, the obese patient behaves as if he were permanently infected, which means that his immune defenses are permanently attenuated and with it the obese is prey to any type of infection, we confirmed this in the pandemic and the attack of influenza that we had, since the obese patients who fell ill presented the highest mortality rates.

Obesity due to weight affects the entire skeletal muscle system, causes pain in joints in a chronic way and leads to the failure of some areas such as the knees, hips, ankles and lower back, among many others, obesity greatly significantly increases the chances of premature death among patients who carry it and severely deteriorates the quality of life.

Obesity permanently plunges the patient into a state of anxiety and severe depression from which it is very difficult for the patient to get out, obesity is a serious disease that affects all spheres of the patient, but it is important that the patient knows that obesity has a solution and Not everything is lost.

Why should I have surgery?

There are two main ways of treating obesity in general terms, the conservative management that is represented by diet and exercise, and, on the other hand, surgery for obesity, unfortunately in the cases of patients with morbid obesity.

Diet and exercise are only successful in less than 5% of cases and in the long term the vast majority of patients fail, it is scientifically proven that surgery for obesity represents the treatment alternative that offers the best results in the short, medium and long term , not only for weight loss but also for diseases that accompany obesity, in terms of safety, effectiveness, resolution of diseases associated with obesity, improvement in quality of life and, above all, the maintenance of these conditions In the long term, surgery is by far the best alternative treatment.
